Economy in provision of medical comforts for hospital patients.

An order for optical equipment placed on Crown Agents early in 1948 was late in arriving. Fewer local expenses incurred for school children.

Suppliers did not complete orders during the year,

Fewer cases notified than were anticipated owing to early control of

epidemic diseases.

Fewer examination fees incurred.

Early control resulting in prevention of spread of infectious diseases.

Lower contract prices than in previous year.

Small outstanding items of books on order from U.K. not supplied,

Closing down of North Point Convalescent Camp.

Rents of some premises were not paid on time due to delay in transference

of leases, etc. to new owners.
